Accurate Measuring Makes Ordering Blinds in Edmonton Easy

Real Blinds Superstore wants to give you the most accurate free estimates, and those estimates come from precise window measurements. With some of our measuring tips here, the job is easy to do yourself.

Measuring Inside or Outside a Window Frame

For custom-fit blinds, the first step is deciding how you want them mounted: inside or outside the window frame. Once you decide on the look you want, you can measure for any type of blind and obtain a perfect fit.

You will need a steel tape measure and, of course, a pen and paper to record your measurements.

Measuring for Mounting Outside of Window Frames

Measure the width of your window:

  • Measure between the farthest points of the window frame
  • Add ½” to each side for a total of 1 extra inch
  • This total measurement gives you the best light control

Then measure the height of your window:
  • Start your tape measure where you want to put the top of the blind
  • Take the tape measure to the top of the window sill
  • If there is no sill, measure to where you want the blind to stop
  • Add 2” to both the top and bottom for a total of 4 extra inches
  • The total measurement gives you room for overlap
